Causes I support
Everyone has organizations whose work really inspires them. These are some of mine.
If you're not familiar with some of them, I encourage you to read more about what they do.
Time truly does fly: For almost 20 years now I've sponsored children through World Vision. I believe they do make a difference in the lives of kids around the globe and do so with fiscal integrity.
I can't even recall what led me to first become a supporter of the Trust for Public Land. But they've played a part in projects I've been able to enjoy, such as the South Platte Greenway outside Denver and the Tennessee Riverwalk in Chattanooga.
Almost nothing remains of the buildings that once were the central business district of my small northeastern Alabama hometown. I support the National Trust for Historic Preservation because they're working to keep the structures that represent America's past.
I think it's important to document history, and StoryCorps is doing so. I'm in the beginning stages of my own project, recording the accounts of survivors of the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.
I love working with Atlanta Lab Rescue. Helping on Adoption Day always ends up as one of the highlights of each month.
I'm a sustaining member for GPB, in support of 88.5 FM because I'm a big fan of so much on NPR, from The Splendid Table and Here & Now to All Things Considered and Ask Me Another.
Things I enjoy
College sports, pork barbecue, fly fishing, hiking trails, snowboarding, the Houston Astros (yes, they have actual lifelong fans), live music
-- these are a few of my favorite things. Click on the photos for more information.
